Seminar & other befitting programmes to mark the celebrations

Port Blair, Aug 26

To commemorate 150 years of First War of Independence, a series of events have been chalked out by the State Level Committee constituted by the Administration this year. As part of the celebration, a two-day seminar on the topic ‘Andaman and 1857’ will be organized here on Oct 26 & 27, 2007 in collaboration with ICHL, which is the premier institution of the country in the field of historical research. Research scholars of the islands and renowned historians of ICHL will present their papers in the seminar.

Other programmes to be organized during the year include patriotic musical evening, erection of a memorial at Viper Island, Ross Island and Chatham Island, inter-school level essay and patriotic song competition, Panchayat level patriotic song competition, theatre festival of historic place and publication of a souvenir. In this connection, interested persons can contact the Director of SAC, Netaji Stadium for more information in this regard, a communication received here said.
