Inclusion of Malayalee settlers in OBC list urged

Port Blair, Feb 19

   The President, General Secretary and members of the "Malayalee Settlers", A&N Islands met Justice Ronojit Kumar Mitra (Retd.), Chairperson, A & N Commission for OBC on 13^th February, 2009 and submitted a representation to include the Malayalee settlers brought here by the Govt. of India under various schemes to these Island territory in the list of OBC of A & N Islands at par with post 1942 Bengali settlers. The Chairperson has assured of taking appropriate action on the matter soon. The Gram Panchayat Pradhan, Shivapuram (Betapur), M Andaman, Smt Shantha also met the Chairperson during his visit to Rangat and Mayabunder on 11^th February, 2009 and represented for similar demand, a communication said here today.
