``The initial settlement took place 65,000 years ago in the Andamans and in ancient south India around the same time, which led to population growth in this part,'' said Thangarajan. He added, ``At a later stage, 40,000 years ago, the ancient north Indians emerged which in turn led to rise in numbers here. But at some point of time, the ancient north and the ancient south mixed, giving birth to a different set of population. And that is the population which exists now and there is a genetic relationship between the population within India.''

TRAIN:Andaman & Sikkim Railway Project

Port Blair, Jul 20 : People in Andaman and Nicobar have started to look forward to their first ever rail-link in the Union Territoty after the Railway budget.
The matter connecting Port Blair with Diglipur Island, linked through ra
il, was raised by the lone MP from Andaman and Nicobar Bishu Pada Ray in Parliament recently.

''I met Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee and she assured me of all possible steps in this regard discussing it with the Prime Minister and Finance Minister for clearance,'' Mr Ray told mediapersons here today.
''Earlier the matter was dropped saying the rail-link in the UT is not economically feasible but I have given an example of the rail-link between Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla, which is 292 km long, and was constructed without looking at the economic feasibility aspect. I have demanded to consider rail-link in Andaman on the same ground adding both the present road and sea links are time consuming,'' he added.
