Moon mission....Happy Diwali..

Indian newspapers have hailed the successful launching of the country's first mission to the Moon on Wednesday.

The unmanned Chandrayaan 1 spacecraft blasted off smoothly from a launch pad in southern India to embark on a two-year mission of exploration.

Awesome headlined theHindustan Times newspaper.

The newspaper said that India's premier space agency, Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) had become commercially successful, and that the Indian Moon mission had cost a lot less than Japan and China's missions.

"Isro's competitiveness lays the basis for making India a nation with a competitive space industry - far more difficult than making it merely space capable," the newspaper said.

'Our baby's on its way' headlined The Indian Express.

"[The launch realised] an ambition once considered by many as sheer lunacy," the paper said.

Over The Moon, headlined The Times Of India.

"People who grumble that India never anticipates the future till it arrives would do well to eat their words now. And of course, who can deny there is always pride and a sense of accomplishment in doing science at the cutting edge," the newspaper said.

Moonahoy! headlined Mail Today.

"A lot has been said about the scientific objectives of the mission. No doubt they are important, but by themselves they would not have been worth the expenditure.

"Of much greater importance is the statement that the mission makes to the world. It states that India is determined to be one of the major space-faring countries of the world, notwithstanding the far greater sums being spent on them."

Scientists applauding the launch
Newspapers said the mission is a tribute to the 'Indian genius'
The Pioneer said the mission was "essentially a tribute to India's inherent genius".

And The Hindu hoped that the mission would "catch the imagination of young Indian men and women who are to become tomorrow's pool of talented scientists, the lifeblood of such programmes".

"The Indian space agency is also looking at missions to Mars, to asteroids and comets, and even one to study the Sun. At the heart of such missions of space exploration is the ability to do good science," the newspaper said.

The Asian Age said that "riding [on the mission] are not just the nation's hopes and dreams, its mission is being keenly followed by space scientists in more advanced nations".

The Telegraph said "the significance of Chandrayaan-1 goes beyond national pride".

"This mission not only gives a measure of what scientists in India are capable of achieving, but also places their work in a global context. It is a matter of no less pride that other than the four indigenous instruments, the Chandrayaan-1 is carrying three made by the European Space Agency, two from Nasa and one from Bulgaria."

"Although it is impossible to predict the outcome, the journey to the moon might change people's lives radically. For one, it could unlock the mysteries of Helium-3, a rare source of nuclear energy." source:BBC

WRITING ON THE WALL..

How long will you bang againsta wall?

You may begin to bleed, but the wall will never open up for you,how long will you curse your luck and wait under a mango tree expecting oranges? You may drop dead but not a single orange will drop from a mango tree.

WHAT IS, IS AND WHAT IS NOT ,IS NOT!

GENIUS is in knowing what to hold on and when to let go.

THE GOAL OF EVERY GOAL IS TO FIND PEACE.

Andamansikkim reaches South Sikkim

After a five months stay at Dentam,West Sikkim...andamansikkim now reached South Sikkim this month. The west life was wonderful with a lot of water around the Singalila Range and the ways blocked with mud and clay, which I found interesting. The travel is of five to six hours from Rangpo. via. Melli, Jorethang,Zoom,Chakung,Soreng,Sreebadam,Kaluk,Heebermiok,Heegaon ..and at last Dentam. Now while returning this route was blocked due to a landslide at Pecherek near HeeGaon. Two , ten meter long and half meter wide iron sheets can rid off the problem for small vehicles, but I don't know why the concerned authorities are not doing it!There are many routes to reach Dentam. While returning we took Dentam -Pelling-Geyzing-Jorethang-Namchi route. This is the ultimate tourist destination in Sikkim-West Sikkim.See more...click here

Kitna mushkil hai jeena....

Today I read an editorial from a local news paper saying West Sikkim is not well reported by the media.A sliding house which landed on the main road at Geyzing, West Sikkim. This is andamansikkims contribution.Moral:"Dont build an earthquake proof house in a sliding/sinking area"! sorry yaar.

NEWS WEEK..Sikkim..Darjeeling.. West Bengal.. Nepal

This weekGorkha Jana Mukhti Morcha called bandhs affected the tourists who visited Sikkim and Darjeeling during this Summer Holidays.Demand for a seperate Gorkhaland state is in its second phase. The earlier demand phase led by Mr. Subhas Ghising culminated into Hill Council then his stand on Tribal Status- to include it in the Sixth Schedule, made things worse for him.The dissatisfied people under the leadership of Mr.Bimal Gurung mustered full support of the hill masses and started the movement in full swing. Here we should note that the guiding principles were not Violence ,it is non-violence and Gandhian way of protest- has been prescribed for this second phase..putting the deadline for a seperate state by 2010.The Indian Idol contest brought the emotional integration-garnering support for this movement.

The left led West Bengal Government is in no mood to give recognition to this movement, which was clear in its invitation for the all party meeting called by the govt. to discuss the events recently. The Amar Bangali and Jagaran manch called strike against the GJMM movement for seperate state ..and leading to violence in Siliguri.. where Force has been called to control the violence.Mr.Gurung is confident and the support for a seperate state is 100% in the hills. In the hills people started storing the Food ration for the upcoming stikes/bandhs.

Trinamool Leader Ms.Mamata Banerjee says if all the affected ..or parties in this event are invited then she will take part in the all party meeting, other wise it is useless to call the meeting.

Sikkim Chief Minister Mr.Pawan Kumar Chamling sought the help of Prime Minister Mr.Manmohan Singh for his intervention in this so that the landlocked state Sikkim  does not get affected by these bandhs, as the sole National Highway runs through Darjeeling Hills.

In another major event Nepals last King Gyanendra  gave his departing informal speech to the Media saying his family is not involved in the Royal Massacre,he will not leave the country and he is not having any property in any foreign country as the romours were spread about him.

Arushis Murder Mystery is slowly unfolding as CBI arrested  the Compounder-Krishna after  Narcotic tests .

SIKKIM ANTI-RABIES AND ANIMAL HEALTH PROGRAMME(SARAH)

Dr.Phurba Lepcha Vet.Surgeon at work
vets beyond borders                                                             Fondation Brigitte Barot

T
his important Government programme is reducing the risk of Rabies infection in humans and animals, and is providing family-planning surgery and health-care to the street-dogsofSikkim.This will lead to a smaller and healthier street-dog population.

Today we are collecting stray and community-dogs from your district. These dogs will be transported to a veterinary facility so that the following procedures may be performed:

Sterilisation surgery
: this operation is performed under full anaesthesia and will prevent the dogs from producing any more puppies

Anti-Rabies vaccination: to protect them against Rabies and prevent them from being a Rabies-risk to the community .

General health care: all dogs will be examined and receive all possible treatment for any conditions Which may be affecting them; most commonly diseases caused by skin and intestinal parasites

Following this treatment, all healthy dogs, other than those which appear to be dangerously aggressive, will be returned to the area from which they were collected. You will notice that they will have had a small notch cut from one ear, to indicate that they have been treated.

Please contact us if you have any concerns about the health of any dogs following their return to your community.

These procedures are recommended by the World Health Organisation of the United Nations as being the most effective means of controlling the street-dog population; much more effective than the inhumane and dangerous mass-shooting of dogs, which has thankfully been stopped as a result of recent judgements in the Indian HighCourt.

It will also result in a healthier and friendlier population of street-dogs.

If you would like to volunteer to assist us in this important work or would like to arrange an Anti-Rabies Vaccination camp for owned dogs in your area, please contact the project director on 97331-50056Or '94341 44248.
